One of our favourite sayings at Vow Bridal Gallery is “it’s never too early to look for your wedding dress, but it can be too late.” If in doubt, start early! Do not underestimate the time it takes to order and make your dress. There are numerous steps which you need to allow plenty of time for: the dress being made, fittings and alterations to ensure it fits you properly, and steaming so the dress is ready for your big day.
Start dress hunting a year before the wedding
Our personal recommendation is that you start searching for your dress approximately a year before your wedding day. Of course, it is up to you; some people prefer to start looking earlier, and some look closer to the big day. However, we do advise that you really must start looking for your dress at least nine months before your wedding day.
Many brides find choosing a dress difficult because there are so many lovely gowns to choose from. Some will find a dress that they like, and think to themselves ‘but what if something else better is out there?’. It is a natural thought, but we like to joke that you wouldn’t think that about your lovely partner, so why think that way about the beautiful dress that you’ve just tried on?
It will be a thorough process
Our Vow brides will testify that we go through a very thorough (but rewarding!) process to find the perfect dress, and celebratory prosecco is your well earned reward when you find the one!
When you find the dress for you, you will feel confident that it is right for you. Try not to worry about ‘the dress that could have been’, because it doesn’t work like that! Wedding dress trends don’t work in the same way as high street clothing. Of course, trends do change over time. As you might expect, no one comes into the gallery asking for a dress like Princess Diana’s! Wedding dress styles have definitely changed significantly since the ’80s. Dress trends do not change in line with the four seasons like fast fashion items do. The dress you fall in love with will still be beautiful in a year’s time because it’s the right dress for you!
The dress brings the wedding together
So please don’t worry about making a decision on a dress, if you love the dress when you try it on in the gallery, you will love it on your wedding day! Once you’ve decided which wedding dress you want, you are in a much better position to establish how you want your venue and the other outfits to look. The dress helps to bring the other elements of the wedding together!
The sooner you find a dress, the better!
Not only does it give you time to plan around your wedding dress style, it also, without wishing to sound alarmist, gives you (and us) time to deal with unexpected world events such as pandemics! We’re in a different place at the moment and of course the sooner you find your dress, the better it is for all concerned.
